On Thursday, Sept 5th one of our brave 7th graders received a Hero Award from Chief Scott McCullen and his North Granville Fire Department for calmly and swiftly saving her sister from a burning building. Way to go Adyson! That's the Horde Spirit!

Good Afternoon Granville School Families,
This morning, our staff was informed by Granville Police about a security concern in the village. There was a report of an individual carrying a rifle in the village.
Within a brief period, the Granville PD, NYS Police, and Washington County Police were dispatched to Granville and our campuses. When the situation was resolved, the individual was found in the village carrying a pellet gun looking for squirrels.
While the individual was never on school grounds, out of an abundance of caution we initially implemented a lockout at Granville Jr/Sr High and Granville Elementary. During a lockout, students continue classes as normal, all doors are secured, and no one is allowed to enter or leave the building until it is deemed safe.
Following this, Granville Police requested additional support from the State Police and Washington County Police to help locate the individual. In response, we decided to transition to a lockdown at both schools to ensure the safety of our students and staff. During a lockdown, students remain in their classrooms, classroom doors are locked, and everyone stays calm and quiet until law enforcement or our administrative team provides further instructions.
Throughout the situation, our staff worked diligently to keep you informed through all school district channels: text, phone calls, our GranvilleCSD.org website and social media updates.
We are pleased to report that the issue was resolved swiftly thanks to the united efforts of our staff, Granville PD, Washington County and NYS Police, and the lockdown was lifted before noon.
We have resumed our normal schedule and activities.
All of our students are safe in our buildings, although admittedly with a bit of rattled nerves after today, which is understandable. Please make time to listen and talk with your students this evening, and ensure them they are safe. A good meal and some family time could be useful.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we prioritized the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We appreciate our school families, students and staff for remaining calm and supportive during this time.

The GES and Jr/Sr High lockdown IS NOW COMPLETE and is NOW OVER. The village security issue has been resolved. All of our students are safe and returning to business as usual. Thank you Granville families, staff and students for remaining calm and working well together.
GES and the Jr/Sr High is in the process of ENDING the lockdown as the village security issue is now over. An administrator or law enforcement professional is going classroom by classroom to personally inform teachers and students the lockdown is over. We will update you when the lockdown ending process is complete.
