Granville CSD fifth grade field trip picture

On Friday, September 27th, the fifth-grade class from Granville Elementary had an unforgettable day at the Hudson Falls Fish and Game Club. This experiential learning opportunity allowed students to explore nature and outdoor sportsmanship through hands-on activities rich in science, art, and problem-solving skills.

This marks the second year that Granville Elementary has partnered with Fish and Game Club President Rick Vladyka, who is also the Granville Jr/Sr High Trap Club Advisor. Mr. Vladyka and his team of naturalists and outdoor sports experts led a series of interactive sessions, including outdoor safety training, a nature hike, fishing, archery, and lessons on classifying trees and identifying food sources for animals.

“At first, some students were hesitant to try fishing and archery. But by the end of each session, there were nothing but giant smiles and ‘I did it!’ exclamations—it was incredibly rewarding to see,” shared fifth-grade teacher Miss Pilch.

Students also collected berries, leaves, and nuts, learning how to classify and identify each item. They were treated to the lore of “Clemson, the Largemouth Bass,” who remains elusive but continues to spark students' imaginations. While Clemson wasn’t caught this time, many sunfish and smallmouth bass were caught and released, much to the students' delight.

“We were so proud of all the Granville students,” enthused fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Bishop. “The kids were engaged and showcased their good manners and eagerness to learn throughout the entire day.”
