Special Education Related Services

Related services assist a student in benefiting from other special education services or assist the student in accessing the general curriculum.  Related services means developmental, corrective, and other supportive services required to assist a student with a disability. 

Assistive Technology Services

Assistive Technology (AT) Providers support students, parents, and staff, to ensure that every student has access to their classroom and curriculum. AT Providers offer services related to selecting and using the Assistive Technology that will level the playing field, allowing students to access curriculum, demonstrate their knowledge and skills, and be independent.

Assistive Technology services may also include:

  • Consultation with school staff around specific Assistive Technology supports to increase access and universal design for learning

  • Trial periods with a variety of Assistive Technology and Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) hardware devices

  • Support for classroom staff with on-site training for using specialized low tech or high tech Assistive Technology resources

  • Options for Augmentative & Alternative Communication (ACC) for students with limited speech and written output

Occupational Therapy

School-based Occupational Therapists (OTR’s) may address the physical, cognitive, and sensory components of performance. In schools, OTR’s focus on academics, play, social participation, and self-care skills.

School-based occupational therapy is designed to enhance the student’s ability to fully access and be successful in the learning environment.

OTR’s collaborate with the student, parents, teachers, and other professionals with the goal of achieving the best school experience possible for the student. 

Physical Therapy

School-based Physical Therapists (PT’s) are part of a team of related service providers who promote participation by supporting a student’s ability to physically access their educational environment.

As specialists in movement, they assist a student’s physical participation in a variety of settings throughout the school day.

The PT’s goal is to enable the student to actively engage in learning, participate in all aspects of school life and ultimately, achieve their full potential.

Psychological Counseling Services

School Psychologists, School Social Workers, and School Counselors provide direct support and interventions to students through consultations with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals to improve support strategies, work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies, and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services.

School Psychologists, School Social Workers, and School Counselors are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach.

They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

They partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.

Speech / Language Therapy Services

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP’s) are experts in communication. SLP’s help students with expressive language, receptive language, fluency, literacy, articulation and speech sound disorders, as well as social pragmatic communication.

They may help with pull out services or within the students classroom.

They work closely with your students' educational team and family hoping to provide a comprehensive approach to intervention.
