third grade trip

Third Graders visited the Old Fort House in Fort Edward, NY last week.

The Old Fort House was where Patrick Smyth constructed the house in 1772 with timbers taken from the ruins of Fort Edward, a fortification from the French and Indian War. During the Revolutionary period the house operated as a tavern, serving future presidents George Washington and James Monroe.

One room school house-

This one room schoolhouse was originally located on West River Road in the Town of Northumberland. Built around the turn of the 20th century along the banks of the Hudson River, this school was used by rural students for nearly 65 years before it was closed in the mid-1950s.

They also visited the canal where a group of students got to see the boat enter and exit the canal entrance and to find out how important it was back in the day and what it does now for us.
